Starnicorn is a relaxing exploration and collection game set in a fantasy space universe with funny and unexpected details. While listening to a chill and relaxing soundtrack, you discover new, interesting planets, upgrade your ship and even fly to a new galaxy.

This is our first GameJam and learned só much on so many different levels. We've also added some pictures and progress on the devlog page.

Gameplay overview 

The player starts with a slow and sluggish ship in a shipyard, immediately noticing other (much better) ships for sale there. When leaving the shipyard, the player can progress through multiple galaxies, moving forward by collecting fuel or even mixing different fueltypes to gain temporary advantages. Fuel is gained by flying over different types of planets. A player can land on a planet to acquire new funny and interesting exterior add-ons for the vessel.  All progress of planets visited, the ship collection and all add-ons can be viewed in the player log-book.

Controls overview

  • Best game experience = fullscreen (F11 in most browsers)
  • Move your mouse to steer your ship
  • Right mouse: throttle
  • Middle mouse: land on a planet or shipyard
  • Left mouse: interact with menu's
  • <Escape> to open pause window

Theme Interpretation (Shadows and Alchemy)

Both shadows and alchemy are captured within this game. The way the player combines fuel types to create a new fuel type with different effects, refers to the way elements are combined within Alchemy. 

For the Shadow part of the theme: when a player flies over a dark planet, a shadowy/negative effect will happen. The shadow debuff will temporarily make the rocket use ‘Shadow Steering’ which darkens the screen and reverses the controls for the player.
